StudyZo is a timed math-practice game designed for children. This policy explains what information the app collects, why, and how it's handled. We've written it in plain language because we expect parents, guardians, and teachers to read it, not just lawyers.
When a player first opens StudyZo, they're asked for two things to set up their local profile:
| What | Why | Where it's stored |
|---|---|---|
| A nickname (chosen by the player) | Displayed in-app so the profile feels personal (e.g. "Ready to play, Aarav?") | On-device only |
| Age (selected from a range of 5–14) | Used to tailor question difficulty. Not a birthdate — just a coarse number. | On-device only |
As the player uses the app, StudyZo also stores, entirely on the device:
StudyZo does not collect: real names, email addresses, phone numbers, physical addresses, precise or approximate location, contacts, photos, microphone/camera data, or persistent advertising identifiers.
Everything listed above is used to run the game and, for the leaderboard specifically, to show a global ranking of players. It's never used for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond gameplay and the leaderboard itself.
Gameplay history and progress are stored locally on the device using standard on-device storage — the app is fully playable offline. To power the optional global leaderboard, StudyZo also sends the player's nickname, age band, and session results (score, accuracy, badges earned) to our servers. This sync happens automatically in the background whenever the device has a connection; it never includes a real name, contact detail, or anything beyond what's listed here.
A player's device is identified to our servers by a randomly generated device ID — not tied to any personal account or contact information. If the app is reinstalled, a one-time recovery code (shown once at setup) can be used to reconnect the same profile.
StudyZo does not include any advertising SDKs, analytics SDKs, or third-party trackers. It talks to two external services: Google Play's own update-check mechanism (handled entirely by the Play Store app, no player data passes through it), and our own leaderboard server described above.
StudyZo is designed for children and built around collecting as little as possible. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children — no name, email, phone number, or contact detail is ever asked for or stored, on-device or on our servers. We do not serve behavioral advertising and do not sell or share any player data with third parties, consistent with COPPA and similar children's privacy laws.
A parent or guardian can clear all locally stored data at any time from within the app (Settings → Reset Progress), or remove all data — including the leaderboard entry — by deleting the profile from within the app. Uninstalling the app removes everything stored on the device.
On-device data persists only for as long as the app remains installed, or until it's cleared via Reset Progress. Leaderboard data (nickname, age band, scores) is retained on our servers only for as long as the profile exists, and is permanently deleted when a player deletes their profile.
If we change what StudyZo collects or how it's handled, we'll update this page and change the effective date above before that change takes effect.
